Fuck.
One of my favorite game production houses Working Designs has gone under! Working Designs is responsible for painstakingly touching up, and distributing obscure, but insanely awesome games from Japan. They released wonders like the Lunar saga, Silpheed, Gungriffon Blaze, Arc the Lad, and Growlanser Generations. They were really gracious with their packaging of games too, the Instruction book for Lunar was a leather bound little book of about 120 pages, with it's own book marker! Their slogan, "Our games go to 11!" is most apt. I don't think they've ever releasd a game that I haven't fallen madly in love with upon playing it. They've released mostly RPGs (The Lunar Saga was first released on the Sega CD, but then shined up for a PS1 release in 1999.) However, they do have the occasional shooter (Silpheed: The Lost Planet) and Battle Mech Simulator (Gungriffon Blaze), both of which are fantastic.
I'm gonna miss them. They were at the top of my list, right along with Looking Glass Studios, which went under a long time ago.
Couple of great quotes from Lunar: Silver Star Story:
Nall: Looking through Luna's things isn't healthy, Alex. You're a super freak, super freak, youre super freaky, yow!
Nanza Resident: There's nothing wrong with drinking! And so what if my liver gives out? I always have a spare!
Nall: Uh...are you thinking about kidneys?
Nanza Resident: Oh, yeah. Well, I guess I'm screwed.
Ramus: Ggreetings.. Oh great White Dragon! We're here for your diamonds!
Great White Dragon: Hey kid, don't you know that those diamonds are made out of my shi... oh never mind.
Lunar: Silver Star Story even had a voice actor blooper reel at the end of the game.
RIP Working Designs.
