Also, I'm glad I work for IU and not Marriot. I found out this evening when I was talking to one of my other co-workers that Marriot management are a bunch of hardasses. They expect you to work whenever they want you to, and don't hesitate to fire you if you can't show up. This guy was smoking outside the Union and my co-worker Diana was talking to him about something. I later found out that he didn't have any clean mop heads to clean up the kitchen floors with, and that he hadn't any for about 3-4 days. He was literally scared for his job cause he was expected to mop up before leaving. He ran a few mop heads through the dishwasher in order to clean them to use them.
I'm starting to develop a nice rapport with various other employees of the union. Our two night security guys Thom and Clark are hilarious. Clark scared me when I was dusting the directors office and he turned out the lights. I also love driving IU truck #114 around to the Library every night. In a few months I'll know the innards of the IMU like the back of my hand. It's a castle. My castle!
I'm also reading a totally awesome book called "Culture of Fear: Why Americans are Afraid of the Wrong Things: Crime, Drugs, Minorities, Teen Moms, Killer Kids, Mutant Microbes, Plane Crashes, Road Rage, and So Much More" by Barry Glassner. It's all about how the media and fearmongers skew statistics, misreport stories to sell products, and make us fearful of things we shouldn't be. I highly recommend this book to anyone. It's fantastic.
Mmmmm.... Chili Cheese Fritos and Fresca....
