Had some crazy club time adventures last night. wink

For the first time I was actually able to observe how the "normal" people do the club scene.

Now I have been to many a goth/industrial/ebm night, I've been to gay clubs and drag clubs, I've been to clubs that were more akin to raves....heck, I'm well known for being the "box girl" at Nocturne at Shampoo, the East Coast's favorite goth/industrial night. So I am no stranger to the club scene...far from it.

But somehow....the typical Friday/Saturday night club scene had always somehow eluded me.

And soooo, being that I lacked these experiences, I decided to take a chance on an invite and go out to NYC's Webster Hall.

After paying an exuberant fee to enter the club, I entered to the welcoming sights and sounds of the Spice Girl's hit song "Wannabe". This cheered me and encouraged me to go on. Perhaps this wouldn't be so different from what I was used to after all.

As I made my way to the dance floor, I noticed that it was hard to find a spot that wasn't drenched in beer, water, or various human excretions. This slippery mess would make dancing a bit too dangerous and messy for me, so I dug deeper to find a dryer spot. Finding a slightly less damp and somewhat clear spot, I began to move about in a way to push the crowd back a bit so I claim my own personal space. (it is a goth/industrial club thing and almost impossible to describe to one who is not accustomed to the etiquette) I was able to dance in this small space I had created for...oh, I don't know....a whole 2 seconds.

Suddenly I found myself surrounded from all angles by light colored, untucked work shirts and bad cologne. Rather then dance around me for a bit and get used to the rhythm I was working with, these guys just dived on in like horny jack rabbits and got to work grinding on me like a nervous porn star.
I quickly danced my sweet little ass right off the dance floor and escaped to a different room.

It seemed that no matter the song, no matter the room and no matter the situation....anytime I tried to dance I was surrounded within seconds of hitting the floor. And not by hot, well dressed men with hot dance moves....nope....you'll only find that at the gay clubs! Nope....I would be surrounded by a bunch of sweaty tourists whose moves seemed to be more like that of a beginner trying to do a fast level of DDR (on crack, no less) then any kind of actual dance move.

Looking around, I realized that girls were greatly out numbered at a club like this. The male to female ratio seemed to be a staggering 3 to 1. It was no wonder these guys ganged up on any pussy they could find on the floor. To make matters worse, it looked to me that this kind of sexual behavior on the dance floor was not only acceptable but well condoned! Everywhere I looked I saw couples bumping and grinding their private parts up on each other. I wondered to myself......"Do they actually consider this dancing?" I thought I had seen bad dancing before...there are always a few people in the goth/industrial clubs that flail about like idiots and seem to miss every single beat (a difficult feat considering the repetitive nature of industrial music)....and at the gay clubs you will even sometimes find the occasional gay man who can't dance or the bimbo chick friend he brought with him to make his dancing look better by comparison. But to look about and not see a single person doing anything the remotely resembled REAL dancing...it was almost unheard of to me!

In retrospect, it would seem to me that clubs of this nature are more of an excuse for girls to act like sluts and for guys (who in a normal situation, would not be able to get some) to at least fake it. Unlike goth clubs and gay club, where dress and style is paramount and every night is more fashion show then hang out..... these preppy kids seemed to just throw on whatever work shirt they could find that was clean. The girls opted for clothing that reminded me of last year's hottest stripper fashions.
But I suppose it doesn't matter what you are wearing when everyone is pressed together making crude gyrations on the dance floor. Hmmm.....

Anyway....it was at least a learning experience and it had its good moments. They have stripper poles on one floor and there were some chicks making some very bad goes at trying to do actual pole work. I got up there and pulled out a shoulder mount followed by an Aysha into a scorpio position and ended it with an electric leg switch. I was well received by the crowd and got a nice applause as I walked off the stage with a smile. smile

Going there also finally gave me some insight to what must go through the minds of "normal" club goers when they venture out to the goth night at Shampoo. I now see why the huddle together in small groups on the dance floor and grind on each other all while looking about nervously at the stomping, fast paced crowd around them. I always thought it was odd when one of them would take a chance and ask to dance with me and I would have to explain; "Look around buddy. We don't exactly dance with each other at this kind of club." The confusion on thier faces always baffled me. But now, I understand it. They really don't know what to do on a dance floor unless they are hips to ass with a drunken slut.
It is all so clear to me now.

Soooo that was my night time adventure summed up as best I could. I'm sure I could rant on and on about some of my other observations....but that will have to be another day.
Right now...I am rather hungry and a rather delectable scent just wafted out from the kitchen and I am now finding it hard to concentrate on this entry anymore.
So I'll catch up with you kids later!

I must admit, I have no idea what to do on a dance floor. I learned my old school "moves" from Dance Party USA, filmed in Camden NJ, where kelly Ripa got her start in life... Sad, isn't it.

PS - Peep and Poop are doing so well and they LOVE dandelion greens! They are too cute for words - thank you so much!

Hey, I almost decided to go there this weekend. I could have approached you the way they do in the movies and said, "Hey, you wanna get outa here?" Then take you away in my motorcycle, except I don' t have a motorcycle. There usually is one in this type of scene in the movies. Hee hee. How often do you come to nyc?
