so great to be back at school. just a brief update for now:
my classes this semester are intro geology, evolutionary bio (yay for pollinating plants!), seminar in US culture wars 1850-1950ish, and historiography, and i'm a TA for the second half of intro bio (molecules, genes, and cells, oh my!).
I think my favorite will be culture wars. On the first day of class as the prof was introducing us to a few topics we'd be addressing, he read a newspaper article about a new "sex shop" outside NYC that is getting the attention local residents because it's big and clean and bright and advertises its products for couples and generally disobeys the sketchy image people tend to have of adult shops. he then asked us to comment on what some fear (and others celebrate) to be the mainstreaming of pornography. so of course i shared the stunning example that is suicide girls. i'm sure that to some of my classmates i'm now "that girl who's a member of a porn site." and if there's a spike in membership among amherst, ma residents, you know who to thank
