I must see the world as an open future, not as a place mired in the past. I cannot see myself as an insignificant fleck near the end of an eight thousand year history of man -- for that would be seeing the world as a place of futility and predetermination. I must care about my experiences and the experiences of those I love, but not to the extent that I believe I am lucky enouth to live in an end-time.
