Halloween 2016

A few weeks back @rambo and @missy asked us to write about our Halloweens and costumes. This is really just my opportunity for a photo dump mostly!

Halloween planning began for me back on September 17th when I ordered the masks for my husband and I. There was a little bit of concern that they would arrive on time because the website warned 'October/November delivery, Halloween not guaranteed". Well, I am pretty sure that Halloween still counts in the month of October. I kind of left the order alone figuring that they would likely show up in time. I bought a few additional accessories for the costume but didn't wind up crafting anything yet.

Fast forward to October 21st at the Wiltern. I'd been waiting since June for this show and the whole day leading up to it was pure excitement. Husband and I got there early to get decent spots in the pit. The intermission leading up to the headliner was so fitting; dimmed lights, fog, Gregorian chanting playing over the speakers, the stagehands uncovered the equipment with great and gentle care.

They put on a glorious show and I'm not just saying that because I've become obsessed with Ghost over the last year. Papa Emeritus III was really engaged with the crowd and fucking hilarious. They brought two Sisters of Sin out and I was lucky enough to get my first Jesus cracker and sip of juice from them (I'm a Jew so it was also hilarious). They played for nearly two hours and it still wasn't enough. Papa had a sit down with the crowd before the encore and talked about the birds and the bees and then towards the end of Monstrance Clock, I felt a little something by my boot. I managed to wiggle down to the crowd and found a pick. My husband got a pick thrown on to his shoulder so we came away with some awesome schwag.

Then we waited for over an hour outside of the venue because we were hinted that the band might exit out that way to their bus. No such luck but we tried nonetheless. We were both pumped up from the show so it was well worth it and made the experience more memorable.

This amazing performance just fueled my desire to get our Halloween costumes in order. A week before Halloween, I start making some noise and I greased the wheels (a.k.a threw more money at the mask company) and viola, the Thursday before Halloween, I was greeted to this sight.

So I spent the weekend leading up to Halloween furiously sewing a neck piece and belts and sashes for us. I did my best to make them not look like shit despite the time restraint and my basic skill level.

I don't get the opportunity to wear my steel-bone corset all too often. I actually broke the zipper on my dress getting in to it while it was on and realized it just wasn't doable since I'd be sitting most of the night. So it was more just a photo chance.

The lovely shape that corset made in the dress. I will forever be in awe of Victorian women and their perseverance.

Costume with mask. I was happy with my twist on it. Even though Ghost has a female member now in Water. I am hoping to reuse this costume for San Diego Comic Con or for another night of Halloween in 2017

There's my Halloween journey. In the words of my sister, "Halloween is your Christmas". I love October and the atmosphere of the entire month.

What did you all dress up as for Halloween? I hope it wasn't as much of a headache as my costume!

Damn! Looking good in that corset! (I may have a thing for pretty women in corsets though) ;)
