More randomness

So..the last two days I was at a veterinary technician conference. A few of the lectures I enjoyed, but overall it made me realize I need a break from the whole veterinary field....I've been volunteering or working in clinics since I was 12! Almost 20 years! In other words...I am 98% set on going with my previous blog of moving to Alberta and getting my medic and EMT and working on the oil rigs. Pending I will not lose my status of RVT(Registered Veterinary Technician) by not working as one. I talked with my mom tonight at dinner about my thoughts of moving and at first she was critical and rolled her eyes, but after a bit she said "Go for it, you have nothing to lose. Worse case, you hate and move back home." And I can also do another job out there.. Server RVT(AHT in Alberta). Or..start towards my dream of getting my yoga certification.

I have also come to realize that other than acheiving my goal of becoming an RVT I really haven't done much with my life. Is it wrong to want to say fuck it and I am going to do something for myself for once instead of doing things that I think will make other people happy? I need adventure! I need to experience life! I need to achieve more of my goals! I need and want to live out my dreams! But as long as I stay where I am I will NEVER be able to get any further then I already am...Wow, guess I've made up my mind. It's time for change!!

So anyways..has anyone done the medic and EMT thing on oil rigs? Any pros and cons? Advice?

Thank-you for your advice, I will definitely keep it in mind. I've already set my plans to move out west and have a place to live already that is actually really economical(moving in with a really dear friend). I can do many other jobs out there other then a medic on the rigs, I know I def. don't want to be an EMT..I'm not sure I would even get a job as one being so petite. I just want to go out there for a bit and get my debt said of and save a good amount of money up. And just really need a break and change in my life..

Getting on with a good company is key out here, live in Calgary or Edmonton and the company will fly you in for your work! Air quality at the plants is questionable at best but it really is limited to the site, and COL outside of Fort Mac is pretty decent. As for swarms of men...  That's EVERYWHERE, guys here are no better or worse than anywhere else, in fact AB has been ranked one of the friendliest provinces in Canada and a prefered tourist destination with Edmontons farmers market and festivals being among the best in the world!!!
