ok... here's a little insight into the mess of shit that goes on in my mind sometimes.

Ever since I was a wee little girl, I had a complex about my friends liking my older sister more than me. Oh don't get me wrong, I've always thought she was really cool and 'the best big sister ever!' but ever since I was a little girl, once I introduced my friends to her, they stopped coming over/calling to hang out with me. They would come over or call to hang out with her, or if I saw them at school they would ask what she is up to that weekend or whatever. You can see how this could scar a young girl... Anyway, so through highschool and college I refused to introduce her to my friends for this very reason. Now that she's moved here to Chicago, I have no choice but to introduce her to my friends. And its in the back of my mind that they are all going to think she is cooler/better than me... I mean I know it's dumb... but I mean even my roommate is all about hanging out with her and whatever. I know she needs to make friends here, but she doesn't need to make my friends does she?

I sound like selfish little brat...

You really don't sound selfish at all... you sound like someone who has an older sibling and who wants their friends to not be all "hey, where's your sister at?"... I had that happen to me growing up, as well with my brother. While I wouldn't go so far as to say that your sis is leeching off of your life, I would say that it's reasonable to be apprehensive of your friends wanting to spend more time with her than with you, after all, they are your friends. Let her know that she's welcome (if she is... I dunno, I'm new here) but that there has to be boundaries... ones that you set. Obviously you care about her so I think that talking to her about it might prove to be the best solution...

of course, what do I know...? I just wandered onto your blog and felt a pang of sympathetic memory at the same thing happening to me... feel free to completely ignore me smile

I'm an only child so all the attention was always on me but I think your concerns are legitimate.

I'm sure your sister is not out to steal your thunder but just because someone doesn't do something on purpose doesn't mena it's not annoying.

Have you tried talking to her about this?? This kind of thing can sometimes blossom into full blown resentment if not adressed.
