I am convinced my tendency to go north in midwinter is correct. It's a genuine relief to come home - warmer, and longer days.

Meanwhile, I just read this. I was pretty cynical about US foreign policy before. Now I discover it was in large part made by an unaccountable, incompetent agency with a disregard for its own rules and no oversight. Well, I can't really say I'm surprised.

Whether it would have been any better otherwise remains moot.

I didn't like the book much. It has serious weaknesses (e.g. no real mention of Air America, and none of its heroin-running), and it's very gung-ho (e.g. the description of the desire to kill Russians as a noble aspiration). Tosser.

In other news, I could really do with a holiday.
