Except for the pyramids, Cairo looks like Juarez Mexico from the air. We were hustled on a bus right after customs and driven to El Gorah, Egypt -a former Israeli air base established at the end of the 1973 war. Now it's the North Camp for the Multinational Force and Observers, a non-UN international coalition of peacekeepers who enforce the Camp David Peace Accords negotiated by President Carter between Anwar Sadat and Menachim Begin in 1979.
The MFO comprises 11 nations: USA, Canada, Australia, France, New Zealand, Hungary, Columbia, Fiji, Norway, Italy and Uruguay. I have no idea how we assembled this odd group, btw.
Not surprisingly, the USA supplies the bulk of personnel and logistics to the MFO, including UH-1 Huey helicopters to perform surveillance and light resupply to MFO observation posts along the Sinai penninsula. My little niche in all this is providing medical care to the aviation personnel.
Not to anger the taxpayers among us, but I'll have loads of free time here to resume my horrific experiments on the native fauna. I'm working on a rabbit with scorpion tails in place of ears right now. The damn things keep killing themselves when startled by noise.
