When I was 12 I remember watching Nirvana play live on TV for New Year's Eve in the signature style of grunge they perfected. That day I didn't know what was going on in that thing we call life - but I knew what I liked and I LOVED Nirvana. At that moment I decided I was going to learn how to play the guitar and I would also grow my hair out. And I did.

I found someone I could relate to in Kurt Cobain. It wasn't so much his excessive drug use, his medical problems or even his upbringing - it was more so his slacker persona, his what-the-fuck-is-going-on-in-the-world attitude and the lyrics he wrote. I was young and I had questions about life, love and happiness and how those things related to friendship and acceptance. Everyone does at that age I guess.

When Kurt passed away (regardless of how you think it happened) I felt great sadness and loneliness but I think that betrayal would be the most accurate emotion to use. It was as if I had listened to Nirvana as therapy to get through some very hard times in my life and all of a sudden my therapist left me all alone. I think that 13 is a tough age for everyone.

It's hard to believe that Kurt died 14 years ago. To this day I don't think that he had any of the answers. The important thing to me was that we shared some of the same questions. I still have a hard time listening to their Unplugged album without tearing up... In my opinion it is one of the greatest musical performances of our generation:
