It wasn't a "family" thanksgiving. We staying here in New York and cooked up a storm with some friends. We had mashed potatoes, squash, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, salad, brussels sprouts with hazelnuts, broccoli cheese casserole, and the turkey, of course.

As a vegetarian who believes gravy is essential to a good thanksgiving dinner, I was responsible for constructing my own gravy. I found a recipe on the internet that called for (among other things) brewer's yeast and soy sauce. Halfway through cooking we tasted it: paste. We started throwing all kinds of flavorsome crap in like brandy and marmite. The end result was... actually, not bad at all.

My memories of actually eating the dinner are fairly hazy as I had spent much of the afternoon drinking cheap vodka cocktails and mulled wine. That mulled wine: super tasty! We made it in the microwave. The salad that our friends brought looked delicious, with lots of walnuts and dried cranberries and, I think, feta cheese. Nobdoy ate any. Thanksgiving is about starches and fats! The food was all very very good.

After dinner we ate pie and forced everyone to view our pictures from Mexico. Then we watched some of my Family Guy DVD. Then we did what comes naturally when you're stuffed to the gills with tasty foods: we played Pump It Up. There's nothing like some vigorous exercise to aid the digestion.

This morning I was feeling pretty grim. But I had some coffee and demolished the leftover salad, which was now slimy and disgusting and completely delicious. The waves of nausea are much less frequent: I can use the scrollbars of my browser again without feeling dizzy. It looks cold and wet outside but I'm warm and cozy here with my Diet Sprite and my dishwasher.

Yeah, we did the same for T-Day. I've done that for a few years now, spent it with friends. That is like the best thanksgiving, in my opinion. But then again, I feel that the healthiest relationship with my parents always include at least two states between us... smile
