this is the second to last picture ever taken of my dad.
toward the end, he wouldn't let us take pictures with him because he was so convinced that he would beat this, he didn't want us to ever remember his weakened state.
we were -all- very convinced that he would beat it.
It's a picture of us on my 21st birthday.

this is the very last picture taken of him
a few days before the end, some of his old friends he hadn't seen since high school visited him.
They spent hours reminiscing, even though dad would zone in and out for it all.
This was really when people started saying goodbye to him.
This day made him so happy.

I am not ready to bury my father.
There are so many things he didn't get to do.
He didn't see his 50th birthday, didn't get to meet Gene Simmons, didn't get to become a famous rockstar, even though he was a famous rockstar to all of us.
I'm going to give him his Christmas present today.
I told him I was making everyone scarves this year because I was so broke.
I don't think he was too fond of that idea, but he also didn't know that I was going to make him a Cleveland Browns scarf.
I think he would have really liked it.
He's going to be in his Cleveland Brown pants, too.
We could have put him in a suit, but we knew if it had been a normal day and he just wanted to relax.... those damn orange pants are what he would be wearing.
So I think he'll really enjoy the scarf.
I told everyone we should put him Christmas presents in with him.
Christmas was his -FAVORITE- holiday.
He never thought he had enough Christmas lights up, even though one year he had over 300 strands of them up... still wasn't enough. He had the different colors of lights on the tree hooked up to a remote, and that was one of the things he did up to the end... he wanted to keep making things beautiful.
So we're doing the flower arrangements Christmas themed with Christmas lights all throughout them.
He's going to be shaking his head saying there aren't enough, and we didn't hang the lights right lol. But he's going to think it's pretty neat.
I quit smoking for him.
I should have done it the first time he asked me to.
I'm not ready to bury my father.
I'm not ready now, and I don't think I would ever be...
but it's happening anyway, and everything around me in the world keeps carrying on.
it feels like everything should have stopped for him.

Such lovely memories. Sounds like your dad was a great guy.
Remember what I said about staying strong.
