It's not so different from the Midwest. I grew up in Wichita Kansas, where snobbery and robots rule; many of the masses there don't like people they interact with to have personalities, much less tattoos or piercings. That said, there's a subculture growing there. Here in Lincoln, being a college town, they're a little more laid back, though the biggest small town in America attitude that pervades 'mainstream' society here sucks my will to live.
