Last week has been a little crazy.
Decided to head down to the Manchester Festival of Fantastic Films (basically a horror fest but they did show some old British b-movies too) to help out my friend Calum was helping organise it.
Didn't get to watch many films but that didn't matter because I got to spend the entire weekend with Ruggero Deodato, the infamous director of Cannibal Holocaust! (and loads of other Italian genre flicks) His English wasn't perfect and there were points where he quite obviously didn't want to be there but it was great chatting with him about his work in the Italian film industry and getting his views on the controversial animal cruelty in some of his films. [long story short: he regrets it]
We even went shopping for childrens toys for his young daughter! Looking at Sylvanian Families dolls with the Cannibal Holocaust guy was a pretty surreal experience all round.
Here is a pic of me with the man himself.
Still working away on my dissertation and putting together some short film ideas (GMAC are starting up their short film schemes again in October so getting together my scripts!) Fingers crossed I might be able to get some money to commit my ideas to celluloid (well, video...)
