I know I'm old because the empty beer cans I found on my curb the other day really pissed me off.

I also grumble about my neighbors' refusal to shovel their walk. Fuckers.

I get to back to Chicago in like two weeks. I am very very *very* excited.

I'm pretty sure this journal started out a lot more interesting than where it's ending.

Funny, you being a teacher and all.

I think it depends on where are spend your time. I pass by a few different types of schools on my way to and from work each day, so I see tons of "damn kids."

It's owrse than that. Having played Mario Kart, I'm considering the purchase of both a PS3 and a Wii.

The nice thing about the PS3 (other than the ability to stream Netflix) is that you get a Blu Ray player.

Stuff that I'm ingesting right now:

1. I just finished Drood by Dan Simmons. Awesome. I don't know if it was intentional, but Simmons plays with the "unreliable narrator" concept by making you an unreliable reader. Or something. Anyway, the book is filled with odd, potentially supernatural things - which is all possibly "real" since you go in knowing that Simmons writes a lot of...

Drood sounds like a good read. I'm thinking of dropping my netflix subscription down to two at a time - especially with all of the streaming options there are now.

If you end out here for a visit, be sure to let me know.

Sometimes my job is *amazing.* Today, I had a student tell me loved playing with data and went back to the lab *after class* to mess around in Stata some more. Seriously, guys, it was awesome. There's a lot of crap in my job, and at this college specifically, but there's something *breath taking* about taking a kid from rural Montana and making him fall...

The icicle attack injury is looking a bit better. It doesn't hurt to move my face now (talking, eating, brushing teeth etc).

President's Day rules. I have no clue why I get this day off. But I will not complain.

Also: holy crap - I've been on this site since 2006, six years this month. That's a long time.

I'm currently writing a class lecture on statistical significance. I've always heard that you don't really learn statistics until you teach it. I'm only teaching Baby Stats, but...

Thanks for the comment, dude. I think the whole thing is gonna be awesome (just hope there aren't too many stage conflicts).

Btw, your blog is funny - not only because you can't do math but because you're sounding like you're older than I am! biggrin

You can edit it, you know.

I detest my insurance company.

1. I broke my arm (duh) and went to the ER (no shit). I was a little freaked out by what this would cost. I'm working and doing fine and stuff (though I should be doing better, but that's neither here nor there for this story). But I didn't wanna get nailed by this huge deductible. Then I learned I...

Oh yes, welcome to health insurance hell. I ended up paying ~$10,000 after all of my injuries, accidents and surgeries last year. I got screwed b/c my first set of injuries and 2 surgeries occurred in 2008, while my 2nd injury and surgery occurred in 2009.

Don't forget you can deduct all of those medical bills from your taxes next year. They have to make up 7% of your income I think in order to do that. Luckily, a lot of my 2008 bills came and were paid in 2009. I easily met the bills/income criteria!

We have similar taste in women, it seems. xo

I'm not really used to owning a car yet. My car is *filthy*, and it was reasonably decent out today. I should have washed it. But I kind of dropped the ball on that one. I'm having a similarly hard time keeping up on my housework. The new place is bigger, and I'm here on my own, it's awful easy to let dirty things happen.

It was quite good, and tomorrow will be better still.

You know, you are by far one of my most favorite people on here. I am quite glad that we stumbled into each other.

Hey! Great to hear from you. Things aren't bad, yeah. How is Montana? And I *totally* know what you mean about liking what you're doing but not sure if you can continue. That's eventually why I left academia. How does the wife like being in MT?

I feel like making a list:

1. I kind of want to go to Dairy Queen, but I'm sort of watching what I eat..... Fuck my Catholic conscience!

2. On the continued subject of food, I have a lot of food in my freezer. I'm slowly working my way through it because that's better than cooking.

3. I really want to get a growler of...

It's post-holiday, and I'm feeling a bit ... bloated. But I'm uneasy about exercising with the cast - anyone have experience with this? In particular, I fear it stinking to high heaven as I sweat...

For those who like law, it might be interesting. For someone like me who has the attention span of a squirrel, it gets really boring. But I also don't like to sit down and do nothing for a long time (playing games or drawing is ok cause I am doing something).

biggrin biggrin biggrin HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin

That emotional component re: pain is so weird, isn't it? It can be so strong, too. I have a feeling I'm setting myself up for some MAJOR ambivalence. I LOVE to ride. But that was a really bad accident. I'll definitely be taking it slow, slow, slow.

Still alive. Broke my arm on the ice. But generally good. Holiday was great. Headed back to Chicago.
