I suppose that it is arrogant to say this of myself but I'm almost certain that it is accurate: I seem to have matured.
I've been trying to read 'Atlas Shrugged' and I just can't hanlde it. It's infuriating because I loved reading that book the first time and the second time I read 'The Fountainhead' I enjoyed it more but in out second term W reality I'm having a really hard time listening to the value of the individual and the evils of liberalism.
I have to agree with what Gibson said recently on his blog about all political parties are really evil if taken to the extreme - libertarians not excluded.
So if I'm having a hard time now stomaching Rand I guess that means that I've matured. On the other hand I still can't stand any other philosophers asside from Plato - who will always have a special place in my heart.
I'm just getting more and more disenfranchized with philosophy. I went into philosophy looking for answers and all I got was people asking me more questions or trying to impose their personal answers on everyone. I don't need that shit, I can do better on my own. But I have grown thanks to it, to a degree.
It just seems to me that philosophy is supposed to offer answers but it really doesn't or, at best, it offers half answers and trick answers.
I saw this film 'Waking Life' recently that deals with a LOT of the things I've been thinking about MY ENTIRE LIFE. DAMN GOOD FILM. Then my mom forced me to go see 'What the Bleep to we know'. What a piece of shit film...don't go see it, it's full of BS and implicit falacies. If you want to read about Existentialism and Quantum Mechanics and figure out the connection on your own then be my guest but don't accept that films 3 year old asnwer that I can make reality whatever I want it to be as a sustitute for figuring out the vague correlation between the two on your own.
Better yet: Download 'Waking Life' which handles everything covered in 'What the Bleep do we know' and a whole lot more in a much more interesting and much less insulting way.
Much love peoples,
Jae
