The last paragraph pisses me off something fierce.
The epic poem tells of the tragedy of a man condemned to eternally err because he was born of a prohibited love between a mortal and a devil.
This is complete bullshit. In the poem Beowulf is not born of a mortal and a devil. He is instead the son of Ectheow the Great. The notion he was the son of Baal was created for the 1999 movie starring Christopher Lambert. 
But anyway, enough of that rant.
Did you all know that the "ye" in things such as "Ye Olde Cheese Shoppe" isn't pronounced "yee?" The letter "y" is instead a represtentation of the letter (thorn, which is pronounced like the "th" in "thick" or "them") of the Old English alphabet. So "ye" simply means "the."
Now you know!
ps. Yes, I know that in Icelandic the sound in "them" is represented exclusively by (eth), and "thick" by . But in Old English either letter can represent either sound. So there!
