I have quite a few artistic friends, and I'm always envious of them and how they can seem to work a job and still have time to create. For me, I never seem to have enough energy or creativity to do so after working.
And it's not that I hate my job, my boss, my place of work or my coworkers (I don't, at all), but after work I have no energy to write anything (which is my art). And on the weekends, if they're not full I'm usually trying to recharge my batteries so I can face the work week again -and yet it never feels like I'm back to 100% when the alarm goes off at the start of my work week.
A lot of people would say something like "You just need a vacation!" but I don't have the money or desire to go anywhere nor the time off from work (I burned through most of my earned time off being sick this year and what time I've managed to build back up I'm trying to save in case I need it again for being sick). Others may say something like "You just need to try, and if you wasted hours doing nothing for your art it still counts," which sounds patently absurd and also leaves me feeling even more drained.
I'm not looking for solutions (I know I'm not the only person going through this), but mainly venting. I know others have it much worse than I do, so I'm not looking for sympathy. So those artist friends who do manage to work and create, I salute you.
