I'm a slow burn

I watched "I Want You Back" on Prime this weekend, and it was a typical rom-com for the most part; still enjoyable, but the beats were fairly predictable. What struck out to me were a couple things.

1. For both people, their relationships ended because it was time for them to end. It wasn't a failure or anything they did, it was just time to move on. I thought that was very refreshing to see, and quite adult in that regard. When something ends, it's not always a failure; sometimes, it needs to end to make room for something else to come in.

2. Charlie Day's character at one point says to Jenny Slate's character that he's not the type that women fall head over heels in love with, he's more of a slow burn where these feelings just kinda build up. Jonah on Superstore said the same thing to Amy, that he was like a fungus and he just eventually grew on people until they realized they liked him. Now, neither of these characters engaged in the type of harassment where you slowly tear down a person's resistance until they give in just to get it over with; what they mean is they're not flashy or the type of person who just "pops", but that people eventually realize how amazing they are (and yes, Superstore is one of my all-time favorite sitcoms).

I am definitely a slow burn type of person. I am confident that all 3 of my exes (well, at least 2 of them, since I haven't spoken to the one in over 9 years) would say that I didn't bring out those feelings of "love at first sight" but that over time they realized that those feelings had developed. Myself, I usually know instantly whether I'm into someone or not, but that's just me. Also, all 3 relationships ended so that they could move on to something better for them (not me, but that's neither here nor there LOL).

I just thought the movie was a different take on ended relationships, and if that seems interesting (it was very hilarious and awkward at times), you should check it out :)
