right now, there's lots of talks about introverts and extroverts, and while it may be painted as a clear black-and-white difference, like most things in life reality is in the shades of grey in between.
When someone talks about an introvert they usually describe someone who is a loner, hates the outside world, doesn't like talking to people and is more comfortable behind a book or a computer. And yes, while some introverts are exactly that, that's a very broad picture. I am an introvert, and people who know me would say I'm friendly, easy to talk to, and even charming ;) I am quite comfortable going out, but I usually prefer talking to just a couple people at a time when I do. When it comes to large gatherings/parties, I will engage a few people at a time but usually hang back and either read or write when the noise gets too much, and I don't stay long as I get drained by that many people being around me for long periods of time.
For extroverts, the "standard" picture is a party animal, someone who has to be the center of attention and is loud and boisterous. And while yes, some extroverts fit that picture to a "T", for others that's not even close. Most extroverts gain energy being around other people; it charges them up to be out with their friends and in social settings. The problem most extroverts are running into right now is they're stuck at home with their family/partner(s)/kid(s), and while yes those are people, it doesn't provide the right kind of energy that most extroverts need.
Right now all over the world we're all stuck at home for the most part, and extroverts aren't able to charge their batteries since large gatherings are banned for the public's safety. So if you know someone who is an extrovert, make sure you're checking on them in this difficult time. Yes, I'm aware it's difficult for all of us, but for those of us who identify as introverts it's not quite as bad as for our extrovert fellows. So just be kind to each other, and eventually we'll all get through this together.
