PART of it is that because most adults do work, the standard of living keeps increasing.  Societally we've put those gains towards everybody having a globally linked supercomputer in their pockets, and cars that protect us better from crashes, and air conditioning.  But mostly, yeah; any scarcity left is intentionally created by those hoarding all the wealth.  Yup.

Just a quick reco: been reading my way through John Scalzi, and I know you'd love him.  Old Man's War series  is great, but as a fun running jump into the pool I recommend The Kaiju Preservation Society or Starter Villain.

Saving money is too expensive, you see.  CERTAINLY too expensive to make it easier for everyone across the board!
