"Just when I think I'm out they pull me back in."

The above quote couldn't be truer for me.

A person d and i have known for a few years is in a similar situation to us regarding the living situation with his (now) ex. he neeeded a place to live but quick and was interested in living here. so he looked at our place on saturday and he seemed very excited about this house. he said he was pretty sure he wanted to live here but wanted to check a couple more places out that day...that he'd let us know monday.

d found a house and was ready to move on the weekend after this and he would move in on the 31st. but alas, he opted to live alone. i can understand. living alone is a different existence and a good one at that. i like this house too much to go get an apartment but i can understand the appeal. but now things are back up in the air with the housing situation. so close yet so far away.

*sigh*. okay, i'm ready for this to be over. for d to move and for me to get a new roommate and live my life. i feel like i'm on hold til this gets resolved. but i know what will happen now. D will be in move mode and will try to get out without finding a roommate to replace her. and as much as i'd like to just say goodbye...i just can't let it happen. i can't afford the extra rent.

back to the drawing board.

================================

in other news i saw school of rock tonight with my friend kelly and it was fun. jack black is born to play the rock n' roll loser with talent. in a weird sort of way i'd compare what he's done for ROCK to what bob pollard's done for it. and while school of rock is a kids movie, it has a pretty damn good message.

i especially liked when he proclaimed that rock was ruined by Mtv. i loved Mtv growing up and will forever associate certain defining songs in my life with their accompanying videos. but it is true, the link between popular music and video has forever tarnished anything resembling the music business that preceded the age. i believe people like janis joplin (who i find beautiful) would have a tough go of it in the video age. you gotta be "beautiful" now to be a superstar. but, to be fair, music has been linked with television since elvis the pelvis first appeared on the ed sullivan show (from the waist up i might add). the spectacle of the proverbial rock show has been as much a visual as aural experience since before the first flash pot was ignited. so what am i really missing? i do think the change is much more pronounced since the rise of Mtv. Before the visual seemed complimentary to the music. now it seems to be the prerequisite.

is britney spears shaking her ass on TV supposed to distract us from how completely dreadful her singing is? same with madonna, the high queen of the video age. her singing is passable at best...in that she at least sings better than britney spears. but madonna's talents lay in marketing and image. Image. but i don't blame madonna. she did what she was good at (and i'm not talking about music) and became an unmatched success. i guess i'm just displeased that it's become sooo much about image and the cult of celebrity. and i do believe that Mtv fed into that like no one has before. and they continue to do so.

it really couldn't have gone down any other way. that's the thing about technology and culture. if it can be explored it will. no undoing what our culture has evolved into for better or worse. you can't devolve, much to the chagrin of mark mothersbaugh. although it would be rather easy to say just the opposite. that our culture is indeed devolving.

enough rambling.

oh yeah...we've been posting ads. no luck.
it's weird. this house is uniquely amazing. it was
built in the 20s, has 10 foot ceilings, antique wood
trim, hardwood floors, 2 floors, 2 bathrooms. a stone
sitting porch. just a great house.

we'll definitely keep trying!

thanks,
sebastian

Sounds like my house. smile

That picture was posted to a boards a long time ago. Olivia saved it to her candids, if you want to save the larger version.
