Thanksgiving. Family. Jesus!

It is difficult to admit, but I often fear that one day -- well, I'll turn into my MOTHER. She's currently on Weight Watchers and was showing off her Botox. At parties and get togethers, she does things like:
[subject of India comes up]
-Well, Mary here actually lived in India for 5 years!
Ma: Really! That's so exciting! I've heard that India actually has more than just dirty slums. Is that true?

[dinner starts. an unhealthily overweight relative lumbers up to the table first]
Ma [loudly]: Hahaha. Oh he's stuffing himself with food! [to her husband] That's your cousin! That's your cousin!

It's just -- I live in fear that one day I'll just wake up and... be her. Both of my sisters (older than myself) say that as time passes, she just becomes ... ridiculous more than anything else. But as for myself, I've only been out of the house and away from living with her day to day for the past... three years. I can't help but take everything personally, still.

I swear to god, the phrase "When I lose 30 pounds I can get a facelift" will NEVER cross my lips. Never ever ever.

Instead I'll just get excited about my photo shoot and for going back to PDX...

Indeed, my parental units provide me with the same horror. Because my mum has a disease that munches on the brain, she has become...well, a nut. Embarassing in most cases, though I will say, when I flew her and daddy out to Costa Rica for Thanksgiving, she was not nearly as scary as she could have been. But I understand completely what you are saying. I fear turning into my parents.

On a side note, you have got to get to Costa Rica someday lady. Amazing life all over the place, and really mostly unspoiled. I would have killed to have been able to do some shoots in some of the locations I was in! Amazing. We went into the canopy today....I cannot even begin to describe it. Just too green. Either that, or I have been in Antarctica far too long....
