excerpt from letter to scoots from the managing director, GENSLER-newport beach california
July 7, 2004
"Dear David:
Welcome to Gensler! Were thrilled you accepted our offer, and we look forward to the new opportunities we can create together. Genslers a dynamic organization, and we hope youll thrive here and enjoy working with our staff and clients."...........................
"We are excited to welcome you to Gensler!"
><
as of friday july 9th, i have
one month to pack up my life, throw myself a kickass going away party and say my tearful goodbyes before hitting the road.
how ironic that i go downtown today to renew my car tabs - i happen to park the scooter outside my old office building, notice i have a voice mail, so i step inside the lobby where our old offices were on the first floor - its california calling to let me know its official.
i spent the afternoon feeling in another world as i scooted the streets of downtown minneapolis where i had worked for so many years, seeing the same faces that i would run into day after day, the guy with the huge comb-over, the gay guy that hiked his pants up to his midsection, and always had a sweater tied around his neck....and on and on. when u work downtown you learn to depend on these characters to be around to make fun of.
im gonna miss this little old downtown of ours.

but on the other side, gotta give you credit... i don't know if i'd be able to pack up and go. i would probably end up turning into a stuttering hobo, because everything is more fun with a stutter, and who doesn't love the crazy lady with the shopping cart stuffed full of river rock? that cart is fucking heavy!
but i digress. what i was getting at is don't go. you can live under my hat, and i promise to feed and water you as long as you need it.
