so i drive past my dads old work tonight on my way home from visiting some friends. the 3M campus in st paul. and alot of things flashed thru my head.
we lived in viginia (after stops in maryland and pennsylvania) and i was in third grade. my dad got a sweet offer to transfer to minnesota. mom and dad leave all of their family behind to take thier kids to a foreign land known only for ice and snow.
i remember him bringing me and my bro to the corporate campus. i sat outside building 220 (thats how the 3M'rs identified themselves by what building they worked in) and i was setting leaves on fire with a cracker jack box magnifying glass on a sunny day. but it never really hit me until tonight.
my parents left the comfort of home, familiarity, and family to make a better life for one thing........their kids.
and here we are, my brother and sister have started their own families here, ive grown to love this place.
i admire my parents now more than ever for having the balls to do something that hurt them so much as to move away from the things that meant the most to them.
just for us damn kids
