scoots

the local squirrels smell winter approaching
they begin to increase nut hiding chores
their frantic pace leads them to forget about safety
i see grey road kill on the residential streets
is it worth it?
the never find 90% of what they hide
even as they come to pay their respects to the fallen
they end up dying the same fate
clusterd groups of dead rodents
get flatter each day as traffic rolls on
mashing them into the blacktop
until they are nothing but a stain
and i am left to pick their guts out of my tire treads

please fellow SG'rs look both ways before crossing
