Many LOST things today that were apparently just misplaced and easily found.
THE LOST JUNGLE, 1934 B&W
Honestly, this should have stayed lost. But hey, it features Clyde Beatty with The Hogenbeck-Wallace Animals! We join the Circus where Sharkey is tormenting the big cats, but is taken down by Clyde. Clyde, in fact, shows a marked preference for the big cats over people, a preference in taming them with whips and chairs. Sharkey tries again and again to sabotage and kill Clyde. Boy he sure carries a grudge. Clyde takes Sharkey along as he boards a dirigible to search for his girl Ruth and her Father who have gone missing while searching for the lost tropical island of Kamor. The search dirigible breaks up and crashes, luckily, on Kamor. Clyde’s whip-cracking methods see him backing down bears and big cats all over the place. Sharkey finds Ruth’s Father and tries to steals the Treasure of Kamor, but is thwarted when he attempts to get Clyde killed one more time, but instead gets himself killed by a lion. Many silent film style big eyes and over dramatic hand gestures are used. Favorite lines:
Kid1 (referring to Sharkey): “I don’t think too much of him.”
Kid2: “Aww, he couldn’t even train animal crackers.” Burrrrrrn!
MESA OF LOST WOMEN, 1953, B&W
Oh boy, here we go… Dr. Aranya is a wacko scientist with a lab on top of a MESA, and for some reason is injecting men and women with spider hormones to transform them, women into beauties, and the men into stunted creatures. Soooo Dr. Masterson goes to visit and learn of his work, finds it “evil” and is dealt with by being hypnotized into bringing more victims, erm, people to Aranya. A verrrrrry long sequence of getting the victims occurs, with much dramatic music. Romance blossoms. Phew, finally, they get them to Aranya. The survivors tell their story to the police who don’t believe them. End movie. Wow, honestly I was searching for some good lines, but this was such a mish-mash of garbage that it was hard to pick anything out that would sound at least amusing. The best thing I can say about this movie is its over. Oh, and the WOMEN weren’t so much LOST as in thrall to Aranya. Which, I guess kinda counts as LOST.
