ROCKY JONES, SPACE RANGER: CRASH OF MOONS, 1954 B&W
A serial tv series, Flash Gorgon style. We find our heroes Rocky and Winky (lol) near the inhabited Gypsy Moons, 2 wandering moons with no fixed location that share an atmosphere in a chain, which threatens to destroy Space Station OW9 where micro-skirted Vena, Jr. Ranger Bobby, and Professor Newton are visiting. Saving them makes it clear that the Gypsy Moons are dangerous, might destroy a planet or moon in their path. Which, of course, means it’s going to hit planet Officius, destroying both. Both need to be evacuated. Queen Cleolanta threatens to kill Rocky and Winky if they return, so of course when they return they are fired upon. But Rocky and Winky **snicker** persist and tell the Queen about the upcoming danger. Cleolanta decides the best course it to disregard the whole thing and knock out the Space Rangers. Manly fisticuffs ensue. Then she decides to destroy the Moons, because they were going to destroy Officius first. Perfect logic. Rocky and Winky **snarfle** are rescued, more manly fisticuffs, missiles fired at Moons, space battle, more missiles fired at the Moons, a riot, then a voice of reason. The Space Rangers are victorious! Huzzah! Favorite lines:
Winky: “Think we got through, Rocky?”
Rocky: “I doubt it, Winky.” Oh Winky.
Rocky: “Rockets on, Winky.” Okay, I think any line where someone uses Winky’s name is hysterical.
General: “Beyond a doubt Officius will collide with the Gypsy Moons.”
Queen Cleolanta: “I will not allow it!” Talk about stubborn.
ROCKY JONES, SPACE RANGER: MENACE FROM OUTER SPACE, 1956 B&W
We once again join Rocky, Winky (HAH!), Vena, Bobby and Professor Newton as a missile is fired at Earth. But from where? The Moon of Jupiter, Fornax. I…don’t remember that moon. Off they head to Fornax. But wait! Their rocket has been sabotaged! Fortunately Rocky has it under control. Oh no, another spaceship attacks! It’s Darganto(?) trying to outmaneuver Rocky, but this is Rocky we’re talking about. They make it to Fornax, but have exhausted their fuel. The inhabitants turn out to be friendly, just trying to get Earth’s attention. By shooting at them. Rocky is suspicious, and rightly so. Seems the Fornaxians are up to something. More twists and turns occur, our old friend Queen Cleolanta shows up, an evil scientist, and Darganto(?) arrives. Who is Darganto? We have no idea, but he’s a bad guy. Danger! Thrills! Sights never seen before! Honestly, I got lost in the plot twists and turns, but… The Space Rangers are victorious! Huzzah! Favorite lines:
Winky: “These instruments must be daffy.” Like the Duck!
Rocky: “Give me more, Winky! More! More more!” Give it to me, Winky!
Bobby: “Shootin’ satellites, this is super cosmic!”
Winky: “We, ah, likie your a moon.”
