Monday: Day at sea, and The Ticking, oh gods the Ticking!

Okay, we are operating on almost no sleep. We go to the front desk and talk to them about the ticking. They offer earplugs, we tell them that this is not going to work. One of the front desk people come down to see the issue. “Oh!” she says upon hearing how loud it is. “That is loud.” She says she will send the carpenters down (?? Had no idea they had carpenters onboard). We eat, hang out with the ticking, wander the ship. I go back to the cabin, Karen hangs out with K&J and do a scavenger hunt and things. Around 3:30 pm front desk calls and asks how the ticking is? Still ticking I respond. Good. No, not good, the ticking is still there. They carpenters did not fix it? No, I have not seen the carpenters. They said they came by earlier. No, I have been in the room all day and they have not been here. Hmm, okay, let me send them down now. (Earlier we had heard some pounding a few cabins down and joked that we hoped it was not the carpenters in the wrong room. Apparently it was not a joke.) So two guys show up with a suction cup with a handle on it, look at the window, the say they need their boss. Not sure what they thought they were going to do with the suction cup thingy, they never deployed it. Enter their boss, Johann. I like Johann. Turns out Johann is their employee of the month. He, as we were told, gets things done. He has them disassemble part of the wall, sends one of them to make sure nothing is knocking on the outside of the ship, listens, then: The problem is the glass is making the noise against the hull and needs to be removed and resealed, but the Captain would kill him if they did this at sea. Totally understand, at sea in bad weather with a hole in the side of the ship. Not good. It will take a few hours, they can do it while we are docked tomorrow. Okay, thank you Johann. It was time for dinner, and we were still not operating on all cylinders. Had a few kangaroos loose in the paddock. So we dressed for dinner. Nancy was not feeling well enough to join us for dinner, she was having trouble keeping food and liquids down. The infirmary had given her some anti-nausea meds but they were not helping. Kim was not feeling well, we had a small miscommunication and thought K&J were not joining us for dinner, but they did (apparently J insisted for some stupid reason) and we were just without Nancy. Only a small problem when the wait was trying to replace Marty’s knives with a steak knife. Wait started to pick up knives, Marty slapped his hand and took the knives away, slapping them back onto the table and glared at the wait. Wait again reached for the knives, Marty slapped his band again. Wait gave up and gave Karen her steak knife and went away. It did not end up in a knife fight so we were all okay, although we left the wait staff very confused, and Karen and I were completely mortified. After dinner Karen and I stopped at the front desk to tell them we needed a place to sleep tonight. They produced a different room for the night. We went back to our room and changed, brought a few items and went down to the new room. Quiet. Karen went with K&J for a little while, I stayed in the room and read. When she came back we went to bed and slept well.

Stay tuned to see how bad can get worse.

Be good to one another. Love you all.
