I need to make myself work on creative stuff.. Sometimes I think I just want to hole up for a month in a cabin in the woods with my computer, my camera, and a couple musical instruments.

I was thinking about your comment yesterday, and a good thing about my job is that it hasn't drained my creative impulses. It has become a part of them. The focus in some of my short films has been walls (being trapped and/or building them) and monsters, of which there are plenty of in my life. I feel trapped in my job sometimes (all the time?), but I'm happy that I've been able to express that. In spite of being an accountant, I've never felt like a machine either, I'm too odd a person to let that happen (I think). And I like arguing (discussing?) things way too much.

But...boy it gets me down at times.

And there are some days I call in sick and lay in bed all day long. But something always seems to go wrong at work when I do that.

I'm just heading back to work, but have you thought about volunteering on small independent one or two day film shoots (is there much of that in Victoria?), and padding your resume with those? People always seem to be looking for volunteers in here. The Film Group keeps a list of them for anyone looking. I know I've been desperate for set decorators in particular, in the past. I ended up using my niece a couple of times and she just did it as a favour to me, she didn't want to do it. Now I collaborate with my best buddy and she looks after that (and the food).
