It will be a long battle, and basically we need to wait for the old thoughts and taboos associated with it to die off - literally and figuratively--there is a generation that were taught it was the devil's weed, you can't change their mind.

I dunno. I think once more of my generation gets in control of the government, then yes. We refuse to accept that we're spending more money trying to keep it off the streets, than we do take off the streets. Many of us are also educated enough to know that pot is less dangerous and addictive than alcohol and tobacco. We also know that our prisons are overcrowded with people arrested on possession charges. Of course, I believe the same of the hippie generation - teens/twentysomethings of the 60's. Many of whom dominate politics now, and we're seeing our civil and women's rights deteriorating at the hands of those people.

I don't necessarily buy the argument that it will stop the Mexican drug cartel wars, because it will only stop the battle over marijuana. Cocaine and heroin still have to get into this country some how. Most criminals aren't going to change, they're just going to find other ways to find money.
