i made a small child cry yesterday. i was shoveling mulch into a wheelbarrow to cart around to a number of flowerbeds. a neighbor kid, only four years old wanted to watch. he kept standing in the way despite my repeated warnings that he stand back, he almost caused a number of accidents. four times I turned around with the shovel and almost clocked him in the head.

so i told his mother that he couldn't watch anymore and then he cried his head off.

i felt bad that i couldn't give him the attention that he wanted. i felt bad that his parents didn't seem to either.

he and i had the same first name.
