Luckily, I avoided most of the mass of holiday shoppers, on my quest to get my Christmas shopping done over the weekend. I managed to find just the right time on Sunday, when everyone else was either still in bed, eating breakfast, at church or whatever. I was done in 2 hours, without seeing more than a handful of other people shopping.
On Saturday night, I went to the movie National Treasure. It was really pretty good and I'd recommend it, as a fun movie, with some good action, no gorey violence, some good laughs and a pretty well thought out story line. It was well worth the ticket price.
As predicted, I came home with some stuff that I bought for myself. I bought socks. There is a company called Thorlo, that makes the best socks in the known universe. They are quite expensive, about $15 per pair, but they are the best socks I have ever worn. They last forever. I think the last pair I bought was 3 years ago and they are just now ready to be thrown away. When they are that comfortable and last as long as they do, the inital cost is not so much considering you don't have to replace them once or twice a year like you would with regular socks. They are sooo comfortable. They make your feet feel like you are walking on air inside your shoes.
I also came home with a couple of new music CD's. I found 2 CD's of a couple of my all time favorite vinyl ablum LPs that I have. The Hollies Greatest Hits, that has songs like:
Bus Stop
Carrie Anne
Stop, Stop, Stop
Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress
On a Carousel
The Air That I Breathe
And, Neil Diamond Hot August Night, recorded live at the Greek Theater.....a 2 CD set that has too many great songs to even begin to list!
All in all it was a great weekend, since I'm now done shopping and have a touch of the Christmas spirit. I brought a Christmas tree home and will try to get i up and deocrated tonight.
The wind blew from the north furiously all day yesterday and all night last night....it is still gusting this morning. I'm sure the wind chill factor must be down into the low teens this morning. The weatherman is predicting windy conditions all day....Brrrrrrrrrrrrr
Ever since being lucky enough to have bought my dream car ...a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 as my first car so many years ago as a teenager, I've always wanted another Mustang. On Saturday, I went to a Ford dealership in Des Moines, where a good friend of mine works as a salesman and I test drove the new Mustang GT. If you haven't seen the new 2005 model Mustang yet, or aren't the type to keep track of these things, Ford has restyled the 2005 Mustang into a modern rendition of the classic 67 Mustang fastback. It is really well done and just looks awesome. The horsepower has been brought up to 300 HP and they have tuned the exhaust to give it that throaty, resonant muscle car sound.....they did a superb job with the exhaust sound. Anyway, the car drove like a dream....a true pony sports car, with great stability, great handling, a great sound and torque and HP out the ass.....I WANT ONE!! The Cobra version will debut in another year in the spring of 06 and I will probably wait until then to get one.....but it will be hard to wait. The Cobra will have a few more horsepower and some subtle styling changes to make it the Cobra version of the Mustang. The inside of the car was very comfortable for me....they done an excellent job of engineering the ergonomics of the interior. Needless to say.....I'm now hooked and will probably think about little else until the spring of 06. Yes, I'm a car guy......Oh yeah and an added bonus for taking the test drive was a $50 gas card from Ford.......SWEET!
Well, it's time for me to refill my giant coffee mug and get to work on a few things this morning.....

I love Hot August Night. It's a classic album for sure.
You got all of your shopping done. Good for you, you lucky thing. People around here are already all stressed out and strange (because of the holidays). I am trying to lay low and relax and pretend that it is just another month.
I really hope that you get that car. I can just feel how happy you would be.
