it was an incredibly nice evening tonight. The moon was just a sliver when it first appeared in the western sky, just before the sun went down. It was a bright white slice, that turned from white to orange as it followed the sun lower and a lower, until it disappeared below the horizon only a few minutes after the sun made it's daily departure into the west. The stars began to emerge into the total darkness of a moonless night, once all the light had dimmed. The air cooled so rapidly, that it condensed it's moisture on my windshield for awhile and with windows down, it was chilling and made you feel alive.
Another fine day here in the heartland! Everything was pretty normal....for a Thursday.....but that's ok. Not every day can be filled with monumentous events. The highlight of the day was having my great niece come out and hang out and help me for awhile after she got out of school this afternoon. She is 12, smart as a whip and loves to come hang out with her great uncle. We have a good time and we tease each other merciliessly. She is very good in school and is taking dance, vocal, band and piano lessons. So, I get to see and hear about everything she is doing. I think Thursday is the only day she doesn't have something to practice after school.
We watched a mother fox and her kits, make their way across the pasture this afternoon. She must've had them really late in the season, because the kits were smaller than they normally are at this time of year. At night, when it's cool and I have my windows open, the coyotes always sing to me. It's fun to hear them yip and bark back and forth to each other in the dead of the night. Sometimes it sounds like there must be a hundred of them out in the fields around my house.
I hope you had a good day too!
