keep in mind before you read whats under that spoiler that i borderline raging libertarian.
if i thought humanity as a whole was intelligent enough to function without gov't i would advocate it.
but people are fucking stupid. so we need a political system that upholds the views we should hold dear.
if that might offend your delicate disposition don't read.
first off i hate politicians...they are a fickle mistress.
every time i hear someone rant about how its the us' obligation to bring democracy to other countries i just want to scream "how about we get it right first!"...i mean i don't know if anyone told you but this isn't a democracy. it's a democratic republic, and with our current administration reaching for powers unparalleled by another, it hurts a little to even say that.
have we forgotten the patriot act?
they can spy, they can detain, and they ARE.
not to mention for the first time ever there are active military deployed on our soil. yeah i'm serious.
i might just be one helluva conspiracy theorist but with 16 days till the election and the republicans going after acorn hard does it seem to anyone else they are preparing to contest an obama victory, not to mention the horrifying possibility that bush simply declares marshal law...i shiver i shake.
as terrifying as all this is it isn't what has my panties in a serious bunch
the sheer negativity in this campaign fucking alarms me. unwarranted attacks about the patriotism of a presidential candidate are you fucking kidding me? there is nothing more patriotic than wanting to be president, subjecting your entire private life to scrutiny so that you can lead our country is absolutely admirable. its disgusting for someone to use that as ammo. a low bloody blow. robo-calls announcing to voters that "barack obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist bill ayers", that fucking caribou barbie standing at a podium saying obama "thinks america is so imperfect as to pal around with a domestic terrorist who would target his own country" (lets not even get into the fact that domestic means your own country so the clarification wasn't necessary or the fact that i don't want people who don't understand that picking my fucking president) all of this of course without clarifying that this "relationship" was on an education board. for a ticket running under the flag of "country first" they seem to be skewed...palin's husband "the first dude" was a registered member of a political party with intentions for alaska to secede from the US. please explain to me what exactly is patriotic about that? and can i just say that by no stretch of the imagination is that ridiculous joke of a woman capable of leading our country. if that creepy old fucker keels over there is no greater threat to our american quality of life than that woman. mccain has faithfully supported the bush administration supported them straight into 2 wars and an economic crisis. backed the administration that made it unpatriotic to question our government.
and let us examine for a moment the sheer lack of policy discussion in play here. could this be because our republican nominee has failed to outline a single policy that differs from our current policy and legislation. could his complete lack of decisive action in the direction of change be the reason why he has chosen to make his campaign about personally attacking his opponent?
there are serious situations riding on this election including supreme court chairs...which as it has since republicans nabbed the white house threatens decisions such as roe v wade.
i cannot respect a man that does not support a woman's right to choose.
and i certainly cannot respect a man who uses fucking air quotes around the words woman's health.
basically my deal is that i love the american idea. even through our tumultuous and often fucking despicable history the basic principles of our founding fathers are beautiful and admirable. they way we have distorted them though is not. i would love to see a push towards the way our government is supposed to operate. where the american people have a vested and heeded interest in our policy and legislation. we the people meant all the fucking people, and we have forgotten that.
obama has conveyed a concern for the middle class that could prove to be beneficial to all of us teetering on the precipice of poverty. he speaks of concern for his nation and it's people in a way that encourages us to become active to participate and be heard. when he says he'll fight for us my little black cynical heart is inclined to believe, and although i don't believe any single person (and certainly not a politician) could overhaul the joke our gov't has become, i believe that obama is a leap in the right direction. i just hope the rest of the voting public agrees. for i personally cannot spend another 4 years like this.
***oh and as a side note for all those who didn't see colin powell on meet the press i suggest strongly you watch this video. his appearance warmed my heart...not as a republican or as a general but as an american with the right ideas.
