Looks like its the desert sands for me....
Went $50K in the hole taking care of my folks, my dad passed away a few months ago and my mom now lives with one of my sisters.
Of the $50K, I borrowed $30K from a good friend. He says he doesn't need it back right away, and there is no hurry. Pretty cool friend. Don't have many, but the ones I have are the best. (This one is cute, single, and incredably shy, BTW. Understands Shakespeare, reads poetry, and has 2 cats. Now if I could just get him to at least *talk* to girls. I think if he got kissed he'd turn white, turn red, get a nosebleed and pass out. *Sigh*)
So, what are the ethics of working in Iraq building water systems, vs working for a tobbaco company? Turned down the tobacco companies, but the other would allow me to pay all my friends in less than a year, and maybe put enough away to finish school. It does mean wearing a flack jacket, but we can hope that type of clothing goes out of style, right?
I don't want to have to take this step, but if I live real cheap and save like crazy, I'll be almost out of debt and flat broke after 3-4 years of hard work, otherwise.
On 2 good friends...when a really hard breakup left me pretty bad off, one moved me into his house for 6 months until I could get it back together. When I shattered an ankle, the other one paid my rent for 8 months until I could get back to work.
Good guys, neh?
