Woo Hoo! I'm back!

Imagine my surprise at logging in and seeing an old, embarrassing username!
This whole username/alias thing has made me feel a little self indulgent, so excuse me while I tell the tale behind both of my names for a short while. Go read another journal if this does not interest you...

The name I originally signed onto SG with, the one that was showing for the past 24 hours, is a user-login that I was issued when I was working for the Tax Office. In all ATO computer systems and in a lot of internal paperwork, I was 'ubl3i'. It doesn't mean anything, its just a kind of serial number. Back in the days when I joined SG, I was still heavily influenced by a nasty relationship (read: engagement) with a woman who didn't believe in porn (I know, SG isn't porn, but hear me out). She also didn't understand masturbation. To her mind, any orgasm either of us had should have been caused by the other one. So, since I'm as red blooded as any male, my porn habit went underground. Since she was the kind of girl who would check URL histories and attempt to hack logins so as to bust my ass, I chose to use a login that she would never guess...my ATO login. This is all pre-SG, but the effect those years had on me lingered. Later, when I was with Sway, even though she was fine with my having memberships to porn sites (note the plural), and that I knew she was fine with it, my habit of using my unhackable username continued. I'm actually really glad to be rid of it now. I feel like I'm a new member, in my own right, now that there's no remnant of my sneaking around days left...

As for my shiny new login (which you've always known me as anyway); Rook, there's a story there too.
A few years ago, in the months before I decided to enrol in Uni, I was searching frantically for anything that could give my life some meaning and purpose. I was drifting through life and, although I was elated in my relationship with Sway, everything else in my life seemed a little pointless. So I began researching for something more. In doing so, amongst many other things, I found that my totem animal, or spirit guide, is the crow. Now, considering the hype surrounding the movie and the graphic novel, calling myself Crow seemed to be a little pretentious. I had, however, always wanted to name a character in a story 'Rook'. The story I had in mind was referring more to the chess piece than the bird, but, when it came time time to choose an alias, I figured one member of the 'corvidae' family is as good as another. So, I took the name Rook for myself and scrapped the story I was contemplating. In doing this I secured a name for myself with a spiritual meaning and avoided any embarrassing Brandon Lee references.

So there you have it; the mildly interesting story of both of the aliases you've seen me wear over the last 24 hours or so.

Cheers.

I feel you. Vermillionesque, was a quiet shock to the system. It's an eerie feeling, being thrown back wards in your mind.

That photo, by the way, if I may, causes me to envision you as an earthen man. The rustic highlights are lovely. Maybe you suit an upped green colouration?
