Perhaps it's the color of the sun cut flat
An' coverin' the crossroads i'm standin' at
Or maybe it's the weather or somethin' like that
But mama, you been on my mind.
I don't mean trouble, please don't put me down or get upset
I am not pleadin' or sayin', "I can't forget''
I do not walk the floor bowed down an' bent, but yet
Mama, you been on my mind.
Even though my mind is hazy an' my thoughts they might be narrow
Where you been don't bother me nor bring me down in sorrow
It don't even matter whom you're wakin' with tomorrow
But mama, you been on my mind.
I am not askin' you to say words like yes or no
Please understand me, i got no place for you to go
I'm just breathin' to myself, pretendin' not that i don't know
Mama, you been on my mind.
When you wake up in the mornin', baby, look inside your mirror
You know i won't be next to you, you know i won't be near
I'd just be curious to know if you can see yourself as clear
As someone who has had you on his mind.
An' coverin' the crossroads i'm standin' at

About the riots, as I am a pacifist, I pretty much agree with your opinion against violence. However, after the initial tension here died down (which was considerable and unbearable), people became much more polite to each other. I have always been the type to give a "thank you" for the least of service someone might give me, but usually people could care less. Nowadays, though, everone seems to really appreciate the small kindnesses that we are supposed to give automatically.
Other than that, I don't think much has improved as far as the immediate conditions that caused the riots. City council and the Cincinnati police haven't really done much of anything substantial. Oh well, like I really expected any changed to come from that end anyway.
BTW, I wasn't in the middle of the riots when the fellows took their potshot at me. I was just driving on the highway. Downtown was under curfew/martial law. That should give you some idea of how extreme the tension was.
I will be watching for news about your tour.
Adieu,
Jacob
