5 dead 5 injured in mass shooting at town newspaper office
For real...
I lived in and near Maryland’s capital city Annapolis from about 1975-1988. My memories are mostly fond and cheerful, plenty of shoreline and inland rivers, college town feel but growing, Navy through and through. I dated a hometown girl who worked for the Gazette, wondering if she’s still there?
This damn US gun violence THING is becoming like a national lottery... will I get shot today? And it gets kicked down the road every legislative session. Hasn’t been a mass shooting hit close to my heart until now.
Details are impossibly sketchy, most witnesses were killed or airlifted out. Several hid under desks and behind doors, never saw only heard. It will take awhile to untangle, there will be the horrible truths, public outcry, public grief... and back to standard operating procedure. And that’s what burns the slash in my heart even more. We’ve become “socialized” to accept this shit as commonplace. I can’t ever... I just can’t.
Each day I pray for a common sense resolution to our national disgrace. And each day I cringe from the banter of “my rights outweigh your rights”... except my right, and everyone I know, is to not get shot by your rights.
