My interest in portraiture stems from my study of the contemplative tradition of Buddhism. This tradition, as well as others, speaks of an innate inner clarity and responsiveness. It's my goal to create pictures that communicate these qualities.
Long but rewarding day today at the Red Corner Gym in Coventry taking portraits for their website update.

Been quiet so just a quick update to my friends on here.
I've been lent a Hasselblad camera by a friend in exchange for some lessons about digital cameras, and I'm having so much fun using it. It's just so beautiful to look down the lens on this thing! I'm going to a good Boxing gym soon to take portraits of the trainers there and...

Hey Everyone, I hope you've been having a good Christmas.
I've been enjoying the time off with my lady, and am doing a yoga course up until 8pm New Years Eve; the last day we'll be fasting too, so a great way to start the year ahead.
Portrait work is on a rest period at the moment while a few things change for me, but...

Hey SG land, hope you're all well, wherever you are in the world.
I've just handed my notice in at work in order to work with portraiture full-time, which I'm looking forward to. Will be hard, but worth it. It also frees me up to study life-drawing and painting further, and continue my training as a yoga teacher.
Here are two photos that I'll be...

I've been thinking recently about Henri Cartier-Bresson saying that just because you take someone's picture, doesn't make it a portrait. It takes a keen eye to capture something deeply true about somebody in 1/60th of a second, but for me it's a worthwhile goal to aim for.
Thanks to everyone that's been saying hello, I really appreciate you taking the time :) Love to you

Quite excited about starting drawing and painting classes again in the new year with my teacher, a man in his 80's who's deeply involved with drawing, and teaching people how to come alive through it. Here's a quote from him:
"We are all exposed! The model is naked, the drawings of the participants [of the class] are examined and the teacher - if that's the...

Things are getting some momentum with the portrait work, which I'm really pleased about. My big passion is people, and communicating essence. The portrait of the woman featured here I'm happy about, because she really doesn't enjoy having here picture taken. I'm happy I was able to work with her in such a way to get this shot. The male portrait was taken manually on...

The Japanese have a term 'Tenouchi,' which literally translates as 'the inside of the hands.' In the Sword arts, and internal arts there is an understanding that there is a whole world inside the hands, and that this relates to the path of life.
I am putting together a personal project: double portraits of people's hands and faces in two separate photographs that will be...

Just going through some old photos this evening and came across these. Had a lovely day walking about 17 miles around the Brecon Beacons in Wales about four months ago.

My absolute my favourite artist is Jack White, and his approach to restriction as the fuel for creativity, is the biggest inspiration for me in my art.

Having fun on Squarespace, playing around with a new website for my portrait photography, still fine-tuning the size of images etc. but I like the full-page lay-out, which I can't seem to get on Wordpress. Anyone else use either of these platforms and want to show off their site?
