Horses are the best mates! A woman down at the 'track' heard about old 'Beersheba' finally having to be destroyed, (no nice terms when an old friend of 30 years has to be relieved of discomfort), and has given me her favourite best beast because he damaged a tendon in his right fetlock area.

The vet considers that it will take the best part of a year to heal, and his racing future is terminated.

So now I am the proud nurse to a 16/3, 5 yr old baby, who loves cuddles (and food), and follows us around like a lost dog! So cool.

Over the next few months I'll wean him off the bit and gently introduce him to bitless bridle and saddles other than racing pads.

Might even get on him for a walk around the round yard, but untill I know how 'keen' he is I don't dare hop on him in the paddock as he might get the potentially fatal urge to run. (fatal to him that is.)

I'm glad your relationship with you ex is amicable, sour separations take years to get over it seems, and the news that your building new relationships/contacts suggests your looking to a future which many new 'seperants' (can that be a word?) tend to ignore, and suffer for it.

Keep us informed! It is good to hear how your travelling, the good as much as the bad.
