the sunrise blinded my eyes as i tried to fall asleep this morning. i have tapestries hanging over my windows to help block out the light, but they are not opaque. the lightest blow from the west maui mountains will send the bottom of the tapestries upward, to the ceiling, spilling the bright, glowing rays across my bedroom, assassinating every inch of shade in reach. as fascinating as this light show can be, it's rather distracting when you're trying to rest.

then there is this pretty busy road outside my window that provides a lovely soundtrack of mechanical belligerence on a regular schedule. there are squeaking belts, grinding brakes, busted mufflers and obnoxious engines rumbling along the edge of my room at all hours of the night. buses are rather loud.

occasionally i am blessed with cascading roosters screaming at the heavens. it seems as if they are trying to see which fowl can be the loudest, the longest. they run around, wild, all over, and some neighbors have them as pets, and for cock fighting, and when one starts mouthing off at the beak, they all seem to follow suit. fucking cocks.

i finally fell asleep for a few hours, only to wake up to a pair of burning eyes. one moment i was dreaming about the look on your face when all of a sudden the muscles in the bottom of my foot and side of my leg seized up in a twisted knot. i am usually up on my feet before my eyes are even open, but today i was wrapped up in my sheet, so it took a moment to escape. i realized i wasn't going to be able to go back to sleep, as i broke the cramping in my leg.

now i am sitting in bed, daydreaming of a good night's rest and wishing i could just fall back asleep...
