On the topic of classes this term:
So Dr. Unnold was listed as the instructor of record for the Spanish class that I am taking, but evidently she isn't the instructor for the class. I had thought I went into the wrong room when I saw a twenty-something Spaniard at the front of the room, behind his desk, filling out papers with some type of black magic marker. His name is Alejandra de la Sen, and I believe he said he was from Madrid. He's an interesting guy, though. Seems like a lot of fun, but hopefully I'll be able to learn in the class. His spanish, since I s'pose he's a native speaker, is very quickly spoken and definitely more foreign sounding than the American instructors I've had in the past for Spanish courses. So that could be an issue with getting a good grasp of his pronunciation. As for Dr. Unnold, I wouldn't have minded having her. A couple of my friends had her for German, and she subbed one of my Elementary Spanish 1 classes last semester when our regular instructor was absent. She's very energetic and seems like a lot of fun. She's German herself, but knows both English (of course) and Spanish as well. From what I hear, she has taught Spanish in France as well, but I don't think she knows French. Maybe she taught it in English. I understand that a second language is more of an importance in other countries than in the U.S., so that may just be possible.
In others news, other classes are going okay but weird Having Blackboard issues with not being enrolled in 2 of my courses on it. If you don't know, Blackboard basically a Web program on my university's site that can be used to give announcements, quizzes, show you your grades, provide you with files, and some other stuff. My Music Appreciation instructor is on vacation in Mexico this week, it seems. Odd for the first week of class, no? A sub gave us our syllabus on Monday and a questionaire that we were supposed to fill out about our tastes in music and stuff like that. We were to turn that in on Wednesday, but there was a note on the door today (Wed) saying class was canceled, and we'd see each other next Wednesday, a whole week later. It's a MWF class, but class had been originally canceled for this Friday, and next Monday is a holiday of sorts so there is no school period. Also in this note was the mention of an assignment being on Blackboard for this course. I can't complete it if I can't get onto her Blackboard! I e-mailed her a few days ago asking about this issue, but no response yet, even though the note posted on her door notifying us of the cancelation announced with emphasis that she was replying to her e-mails if you had something to bring up with her. Annoying.
The same BB issue happened with my Microcomputer Applications class, but that was taken care of quickly. I got a response within 10 minutes and I had been added to the course. Very quick, so I was thankful of that. Unfortunately for that class there were viruses on the PCs in our lab room so there was nothing we could do until next week. We were given an assignment to read in our text and a farewell 'til next Wednesday, as well. Things aren't too bad, I guess, but I hope these kinds of happenings aren't a great indication of what I have to look forward to the rest of the semester.
