It was a present from Marshall, who gave him a very long lesson on gun safety before Alex was even allowed to touch it. He's not allowed to touch it while within Orleans parish, and even then only with close adult supervision. And it stays well hidden in the meantime.

It's not as though Marshall bought him a child's .22 or anything. Which, as you probably know, is a rather popular gift for the under-8 set in rural-- and not-so-rural-- Louisiana.
