I've always been extremely fond of drive-in movies.

When I was a kid there was one in Jersey that we'd always pass on some random excursion or other and I'd always lobby to go, and invariably be told "The movie's already started, we'll go next time." Next time never did come, and before too long it was torn down to build a multiplex, but not before I got to watch a pretty fair chunk of one of the Sinbad movies stuck in traffic on the elevated highway that ran past it. That was the coolest.

That substantially unfulfilled childhood longing stuck with me though, and I've gone out of my way, since being able to transport myself, to hit as many as remain wherever I happen to live. Many of the ones I've been to have sadly gone the way of the first, but there are still an anachronistic few scattered around and I've found a new motivation to go: you can take infants.. Perhaps the cult of the child can save Roadside Americana.

NB: If you decide to go yourself, and think, "Gas is $2.35 a gallon, I won't run the engine, I'll just turn it over a few times.", don't forget to do that. That radio sucks more juice than you think, and while the staff is more than used to jumping cars, its a trifle embarrassing nevertheless.

Not only do I remember drive-ins, I remember asking my parents if I could hide in the back of the car while they paid for tickets. Sneaky little bastard. I blame all the ninja and Bond films I was subjected to.

These Lush products...

They look wallet drainingly good.

_sarah_:

Oh please, you're just another bitter, twisted rage case who wants to turn his own misery into a manifesto. You haven't said anything, you haven't listened to anything anyone else has said and if a critical thought flitted across your frontal lobe it would die of loneliness. As far as chest thumping net kooks go, you don't even make the B Team.

That made me laugh so hard my eyes started watering.

Thank you. smile

I can't wait to see what he says in response.
