Tonight I cooked dinner for my brother at his place in San Francisco. I peeled the apples for the apple pie, and then spent an hour-plus trying to figure out why his google apps admin rights couldn't fix the email problems for the accounts. (MX records weren't right, and I couldn't figure out a way to address it with just his access. I like finding problems I can't fix - very rewarding.) Afterward, I received the passive-aggressive-aggressive non-thanks. Family!

And tomorrow we leave for the rest of the family drama.

A friend asked me to help with a dice-based zombie game he wanted to have - that I would design & develop it, and...huh. I bet people get paid for that. (Some of you saw the dice at the SGSeattle white elephant.) Which means I must've unpacked it, and not put it back in. So I've spent a lot of hours the past couple of days modeling dice rolling in excel, and then expanding it to do testing for the game mechanics.

Some basic problems with the mechanics I came up with so far:
1. Zombies need to kill more.
2. Need better choices - mindless dice-rolling only goes so far. (It might be fine for zombies.)
3. Not enough suspense.

Which only means there's more work involved.

Sounds interesting; mechanics are always fun to work.

Start with the original Night of the Living dead then finish off Romero's catalog.

I actually don't like zombie movies and the like but the original Night of the Living Dead is really, really good.

You should probably decide what scenario the game will be based on (initial outbreak, mid-panic, end game).

And, for a fun "zombie"/infection movie, Night of the Comet.
