So I'm running around doing errands today - I found a Megamillion lotto ticket on the ground. It's like 170 million prize right now, so I think...huh. What would happen if it won? Does it count as lost and found? At the time I found it, it was worth $5. Maybe someone from the future wanted me to have money, so they dropped it in...

You actually know someone named Dorcas? That's a really strange name.

I'm actually reading The Book of the Long Sun now. I think it's vaguely related to The Book of the New Sun, but I am not yet sure how that is. And I still have to read The Book of the Short Sun.

Yeah, it's still kind of a weird name!

I've been cleaning up crap around my apartment today - random stuff I never expect to really appreciate, I hope to get re-used. What are you supposed to do with 30 Mardi Gras beads in October? The dozens of name tags from game conventions - are they good as memories, or better in the recycle bin?

And then there's music appreciation. I went to two...

Tonight I cooked dinner for my brother at his place in San Francisco. I peeled the apples for the apple pie, and then spent an hour-plus trying to figure out why his google apps admin rights couldn't fix the email problems for the accounts. (MX records weren't right, and I couldn't figure out a way to address it with just his access. I like finding...

Sounds interesting; mechanics are always fun to work.

Start with the original Night of the Living dead then finish off Romero's catalog.

I actually don't like zombie movies and the like but the original Night of the Living Dead is really, really good.

You should probably decide what scenario the game will be based on (initial outbreak, mid-panic, end game).

And, for a fun "zombie"/infection movie, Night of the Comet.

Rental car preferences?

I'm heading to Iowa for 5 days, renting a car, driving around Des Moines and Iowa City. I have a plane ticket, hotel reservations for IC, and stuff to do on most nights. I usually just rent cars from Enterprise, but I'd like your feedback. Anyone?

You get a free postcard from Iowa as your reward for an answer.

Well, what are you looking for in a car? Enterprise has a wider selection of cars, because unlike the other companies, they don't have contracts with a single manufacturer. I usually rent from Hertz out of habit and get a Mustang since that's what I'm used to driving. The visibility in a Mustang is pretty bad though. Oh, and there's a 'hip' restaurant across from the Fort Des Moines Hotel (on the opposite side of the hotel from the river). If you are tempted to eat there, don't . I was emphatically warned by the guys last time I was in Des Moines that they have a horrible mouse problem.

No internet? Seriously? Wow...I can hardly fathom that concept. Have fun in Iowa!

I used to hate telemarketers. As in, talk in nothing but swear words.

One just called from the Dish Network. I like dishes. I tried to find out what kinds of dishes he sold, but then he wanted to talk about TV. No, no...we were talking about dishes. I'm looking for this really nice dish that I can give my mother for her birthday. He...

Postcards from Mexico to the States can take awhile. I sent one on April 25th, postmarked May 9th, delivered to Iowa on May 22nd. (Oh, if people like postcards, they should PM me with an address.)

I haven't figured out how to change my blogging pic on sgbeta, but someday! someday! I'll take advice, too. Someday!

I successfully toasted a *DVD* image I picked up...

Guitar Center has a good selection of cheap turntables, but it may be overkill to get a DJ-style one.

MusiciansFriend.com is good too.

My birthday was deliberately hidden away. Ah.

I avoided an ex in Chicago, flirted with a cousin-in-law(?), and later crashed a table of 3 young ladies at the pub. It's like a trifecta!

Except I had to screw it up. A friend wants to hang out on Sunday, and she plans on going to the bar with me where I re-introduce myself to the 3...

i'm lucky my father is an accountant, so all i had to do was call him and he told me what to save and who to send it too. saved me quite a bit of internet searching. i think employers usually match your ss contributions, so they pay half you pay half.

the hard part is remembering to save your tax money. you get a check and... wheeee! money to spend.

i'm not terribly worried about getting hired. if i'm not good enough at the job in 6 months that they would want to hire me, then it's probably not someplace i should be working anyway. unless there's some kind of secret handshake you'd like to let me in on.

so far it is hard, because it's not at all what i'm used to doing. hopefully i'll get better fast. i'm usually good at picking up new stuff.
