Infocom.
One of the reasons I keep my Macintosh around. It's a 1987 issue Mac Plus 1MB and it cruises along at a cool 50-60 HZ (i think, thats what it sez on the back of the unit... I'm probably wrong)
Most of you won't remember the Text Adventures published by Infocom. They first appeared around '82 and faded away in the late '80s.
No graphics.
No joystick.
No sound effects.
Just this:
A lone black candle obscures the proportions of this windowless chamber. The scent of tallow is strong, heighting the sense of arcane mystery.
Your eyes are irresistably drawn to a glass display case near the open door. Another exit is partially concealed by a curtain.
An old woman is watching every move you make.
>LOOK AT CASE
You look at the glass display case.
Inside rests a silver scabbard .
>GET SCABBARD
The old woman scowls at you.
"Don't touch the merchandise"
>TALK TO WOMNA
I don't know what a "womna" is.
>TALK TO WOMAN
She doesn't seem to want to talk to you.
>BUY SCABBARD
"It's not for sale"
>GO EAST
You can't go that way.
>FUCK OFF
Such language from a young knight!
>QUIT
Do you really want to quit Zork II?
It was all about GAMEPLAY back then, something that we've forgotten about with all these newfangled 128-megabit whatever systems.
Give me Planetfall(1983) and a monochrome monitor, and I'm a happy lad.

Listening to Entombed "Young Man Nihilist" then Buckley's "Lilac Wine" and then Messhugah's "Exquisite Machinery of Torture" is something you just can't find on radio.
It'll make you scream and swoon like a girl at a Beatles concert watching the Beatles get murdered onstage.
