Spending this week at the old homestead, helping my mom with all the mountains of crap that still has to be done. Most of this consists of digging through the attic, basement, and garage. On the downside, my lungs are choked with dust. On the plus side, oh the treasures I've found.

I vaguely remember the days when I could sleep till the mid-afternoon on a weekend. Damn you, internal clock.

Random thought while giving up on going back to sleep: When asked what I do, I typically avoid the whole "I write, edit, and defend the documentation for federally-regulated imaging and molecular marker systems used in clinical drug trials," because that's my work, it's not what...

If you should meet a veteran today, remember to say thank you.

Aww... it was just a smiley. But yeah, I do in my own way. In words or a kind act....

No, not a car accident at all. Just something completely unexpected.

Just got back home. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and wishes.

There's still a hell of a lot to do. In a way I'm glad to be busy.

Oh my goodness, you have provided me with a new favorite place to visit. What an awesome comic! I love stull like that. Perhaps I should rewrite the last two lines to say (3rd pic) "I could just call someone" 4th pic "but kidnapping you seems like a safer bet."

Why are so many of us working on Saturday anyway? That, in the parlance of the young people, is busted.

How is your world right now? Still busy or shifting into the everyday?
ribbonsundone:
Indeed ~ I guess at some point you had to be alone with the change, but I do wish that weren't the case. Being quite must be brutal, but facing it will help the grief relase into more ease. Where is the magic wand when you need it?

Thai food=yum. I purchased a small pot of red curry the other day in the hopes of making some spicy delicious. My cooking has been subsistance only lately, but I am trying to remember flavor. Perhaps the chilis will kick up my creativity.

What do you write?

My dad passed this morning. Thanks to all for your well wishes.

Walking around the house is like getting hit in the chest unexpectedly every few minutes. On the one hand, I am now acutely aware that I have no audio of him, and I have this intense need to hear his voice. On the other hand, I find examples of his handwriting all over...

Damn shame. Losing someone isn't easy. I know it only takes one thing here or there and I can't get my mind off it for the longest time. I've found that picking up their hobby is a good way of relieving the stress.

Also, you should check to see if there are any old VHS tapes of your family or trips and the like. If you have any of those; there are always sure to be some good angry dad comments coming from behind the recorder!
lusille:
kiss thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad xxxxx

So the news on my dad is not at all good. The infection that started around his feeding tube has spread to his kidneys, and he is pretty much hospital bound. He is retaining fluid and can't sleep on his back due to the tenderness in his kidneys. Add to this the cancer and the complications arising from managing his diabetes in this state. Obviously...

I'm sorry. I'm not entirely sure what to say. Hopefully, it is just a symptom of all the stress and in time he'll realize there is always a reason to keep hoping.
ribbonsundone:
My heart is with you and your family. Watching someone suffer and lose hope must be so difficult. Perhaps this is his way of grieving and he will regain some sense of possibility. No matter what I hope the situation eases for all involved in whatever is best.

Well I shouldn't have spoken - my dad had to go to the hospital for an infection in the tubes. home now, but this will interrupt the chemo.

Hope your father gets well soon. I've gone through enough races to the hospital to check on my father over the years, of him hurting himself or having a heart attack.

As for the second life deal.. It's really f'ing boring. Even knowing people on there isn't helping me much.
subrosa:
First off, I really hope your father is OK. Truly.

Secondly, it is on, motherfucker. What's the bet? Straight up, no points. Terms are up to you.

So the President won the Nobel Peace Prize today, and of course, the commentariat pounced. Man, Chicago loses the Olympics, and it's cause for criticism. He wins a prize, and it's cause for criticism. Tune in next week when Obama drinks a glass of water, and the right erupts.

Did he deserve the award? No, probably not* . You know who else thinks that? Obama,...

Some of you already know this from my postings in the other place, but in the interest of completeness:

My Dad must be feeling better, and responding to the chemo. He is eating, walking dogs, talking about fishing, and bitching about the Democrats. The only downside, he is also bitching about money, which means I may have to have another hard discussion with the siblings....

The trip back east was productive, and we even got a bit of good news at the end of it. Good enough that I'm going to post this instead of talking about it some more:
